Agrology - The Agricultural and Environmental Profession

Agrology is an evolving profession of diverse practices, focusing on science as it applies to a number of areas directly or indirectly tied to management of biophysical resources, food production systems, food security and safety, and environmental quality. The profession encompasses thirty three practice areas that are captured in four broad Agrology sectors of: Life Sciences, Environment, Agriculture and Food.

The Alberta Institute of Agrologists (AIA) licenses individuals to practice Agrology in Alberta. The Institute is responsible to ensure the public that those who are qualified to practice Agrology are licensed to do so, are competent and experienced and have a clear understanding of their ethical responsibilities. As the regulatory body for Agrologists, the AIA is mandated by provincial legislation to regulate these practitioners in order to better serve the Alberta public, and to address any public concerns or complaints regarding those who practice Agrology.  Those who are qualified to practice Agrology and who do so without license are in contravention of the Agrology Profession Act and may be guilty of an offence under the Act.
