Title: Bentley Lecture in Sustainable Agriculture- Mega Mergers on the Menu: Corporate Concentration and the Politics of Sustainability in the Global Food System

Date/Time: Thursday, January 25, 2018 at 3:00 PM, poster presentation and dinner to follow.

Description: Jennifer Clapp, a Canada Research Chair in Global Food Security and Sustainability at the University of Waterloo, will deliver the 16th Bentley Lecture in Sustainable Agriculture. The recently announced mergers among some of the biggest players in the agricultural input industry underline the extent to which the sector has come to be dominated by a small number of giant firms. Growing corporate concentration in the food sector has given rise to intense debate about its implications, including for the environment. In this talk, Jennifer Clapp will provide an analysis of these latest debates and their significance for the politics of sustainability in the global food system.
